Orientation effect of electropolishing characteristics of 316L stainless steel fabricated by laser powder bed fusion

Abstract 3D metal printing process has attracted increasing attention in recent years due to advantages, such as flexibility and rapid prototyping. This study aims investigate the orientation effect of electropolishing characteristics on different surfaces 316L stainless steel fabricated by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF), considering that rough surface printed parts is a key factor limiting its applications industry. The corresponding building selective melting are studied. Experimental results show electrolyte temperature critical importance electropolishing, especially for vertical direction layering plane. finish electropolished affected defects generated during L-PBF process. Thus, higher roughness Sa than horizontal surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy spectra Cr/Fe element ratio presents corrosion resistance measuring anodic polarization curves fitting equivalent circuit experimental electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
